Yesterday we had two special guests come in and read one of their favorite Eric Carle books to the class. "K" is in fourth grade and held the big book while her sister "M" who is in second grade read The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Both are former students from our class and we were so happy to have them share what they remembered from the Eric Carle author study. "M" also wore her Very Hungry tee shirt especially for the occasion. It was wonderful to see how happy they were to relay their memories with the class. Thanks girls - you both did a great job!!

I LOVE your caterpillar. I may have to try to make one like that soon. TODAY I was lucky enough to catch our monarch butterfly emerging from its chrysalis while the students were at P.E. and was able to videotape it! Miraculous!
On another note, the poster you have with the digraphs on the wall behind the student seated, would it be possible to get a copy of the parts of the chart that are covered up? It's great! berry.susan@brevardschools.org
That is a great poster and we chant it a few times a week. I'll get a copy and e-mail it to you this week. MM
I love you Mallards "From Head to Toe"! You build reading and writing strategies, and you also build relationships. How awesome that former students were incorporated in this lesson!
It's great!!.............................................
I love that you had former students join you during this author study. It is certainly one that your students will remember for years to come!
I was hoping you could tell me where the little girl in the picture purchased her shirt and the in another of your slide shows there is another group or kids that have hand made t-shirts w/ a caterpillars. I was wondering if you could tell me how you made them. Greatly appreciated,

Dear Teacher in Houston,TX,
The original shirt was from Target. For a short while they were selling Eric Carle t-shirts. Then we got the idea to make our own. They were done with fabric paint and sponges (for the body). Our students still wear them in first grade this year.
Thanks for writing.
MM
