Homework was a family project this week. Students and parents were invited to create their own Native American Lenape tribe member. Families were asked to research the tribe on the internet and dress the cardboard cut out accordingly. We were "WOWED" by the representations of original dress that came in. Children also put their chosen Native American name on the cut out. Students had the opportunity to share their Lenape boy or girl with the class and tell how they made it. We have received numerous comments on how much fun this family homework project was and how much each family has learned about our adopted tribe - "The Original People."

We feel like we are in your classroom when we ready the blog posts. What a gift to see what Joey sees! It's nice that the children made the Little Lenapes (sometimes over zealous parents do the take home projects for the kids) but you can really tell that the students created them. Can't wait for Tuesday night and Friday!

Thanks for sharing the pictures of all the kids with their Lenape doll. My kids were so excited to bring theirs to school and see everyone else's. We can't wait for all the fun next week!
The blog updates are ones we are always anxious to see and read! We enjoy looking at each entry and hearing Bennett's comments afterwards! What a great week this will be!

I love this year's Lenape people created by the students. They are so creative!
This is a really neat way to incorporate the first nation history and awareness into your class! Currently in my education class we are focusing on having cultural diversity in all subjects. A main topic has been first nations. All of the students developed very nice representations. Way to help out parents!
Since we live in Miami, we miss being a part of Andrew's daily events. Thanks to this wonderful blog, we feel so much closer.
