Kindergarten Pow Wow 2019
Our tribe this year was the Inuit. Our students learned about the Inuit culture which included their food, housing and shelter. They sang songs and went to centers such as natural dye, games, and food tasting. It was a memorable day for all.

Fire Department Visit
Today students were able to see fire truck vehicles up close and learn about the equipment on them. They had the opportunity to walk through the truck and listen to the firefighters safety tips. They showed us how they would look if they came to house and not to be afraid. The firemen also showed us how far the water hose would go and they sounded off the siren. It was another great experience for our kindergarten students.

First Field Trip - Super Scientific Circus
The children were very excited to board the bus and go to our first kindergarten field trip - The Super Scientific Circus! The Super Scientific Circus starred Mr. Fish and Trent the Mime. Science was so much fun with the comedic antics of this duo. In the show, they included boomerangs, bubbles, beach balls, bull whips and magic to introduce the principles of friction, inertia, centripetal force, aerodynamics, sonic booms, air pressure and ultraviolet light. This was everything a field trip should be and more and one that the children will remember.

Five Senses - Sense of Taste
In Science, students were on the sense of taste today. They were given the opportunity to taste lemons, pretzels, Skittles and chocolate. The children were very excited to try the chocolate until they tasted it and found out it was unsweetened Baker's chocolate! There were not very happy about that!

Chicka Chicka in the Hall
Our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom art work is decorating the hall outside our classroom. The children cut out their palm fronds and tree trunks and each has his/her name going up the coconut tree in colorful stickers. The book and activity is always a class favorite.
Environmental Print
As a way to have students become aware of the world around them, we have been noticing and talking about environmental print. This is the print of the world around us. Signs, labels, logos, street signs, cereal boxes and candy wrappers are examples of environmental print.
Practicing sight words together with picture clues is one way we teach beginning reading skills. Environmental print marks the beginning of recognizing words and the letters in them.

Kindergarten: Week One
We have assembled our Kindergarten Class of 2019-2020. Completing the first week has been a transition of learning the rituals and routines of making our classroom run smoothly. The students have been to two resources which were P.E. and the library. They have also visited our school mini-farm where the children were able to meet and feed the turkey, chickens, roosters, rabbits, and goats. There was excitement in the air with many exclaiming that they have never seen these animals so close! We will try to make that a routine that helps to make Fridays even more special.
