During the last week of school, we decided to videotape a stick puppet play that the children have been practicing during Reader's Workshop. It is one of their favorite Eric Carle Books, "The Grouchy Ladybug." Thank you to Davis, Andrew, Conor, Sydney, and Carson who "insissssted" on practicing every day this week in order to present it to you.
The Mall-ard's blog provides a window into our Kindergarten classroom. You are welcome to take a peek into our daily activities and share in the lives of our Kindergarten students.

Time to Say Good-bye For Now
The 2007-2008 Kindergarten year has come to a close. The books are being put away, the charts are being brought home as prizes, and the treat box candy is emptying out. Today, I felt like "Grinchy Claus" as I was putting genre books in the closet. One child said, "Mrs. Mallon - Where are you putting our books?" Children at this age know that school will soon be over but don't know quite what that means. I will miss them over the summer, but I know they will come back to school ready for First Grade. I will be looping with the class from Kindergarten to First. Mrs. Dillard will be co-teaching with me next year and can't wait for all the new learning that will occur. Tomorrow, students will be given a letter in their report card to write to me during the summer via a post card or letter with pictures of where they went on their summer vacation so that I can use these pictures and notes as a "Welcome Back" bulletin board in August. They love coming back and seeing themselves on the bulletin board!! Don't forget to read each day -- and visit the summer reading list at http://www.duvalschools.org/cce - go to Media then to Summer Reading List. A special thank you for a wonderful year to Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Ellis - you have made it the perfect year !! Have a safe summer and don't forget to write!!

End of the Year Activities - Lots of Things to Do!!
This last week of Kindergarten, we are doing things a little out of the ordinary. Yesterday was "Funny Hat Day" and today was "Board Games", "Ice Cream Social", and a visit from Karate America. The students had a great time listening to the black belt give directions and teach the values of what it means to be in karate. They each had a turn kicking and hitting the cushiony pads. The students learned about giving respect to parents and teachers and the value of manners. In the afternoon, the children brought out their board games including Candyland, Trouble, Twister, and Dominoes. Around 2:00 the ice cream store was open. We had chocolate and vanilla ice cream, chocolate and strawberry syrup, sprinkles, and whip cream. It was a great way to end the day and share some wonderful memories of this kindergarten year! Tomorrow is pajama day, popcorn, and movie - with a Chick-Fil-A lunch - Wow- I can't wait!!!
